Chancellor George Osborne has become the butt of Twitter jokes after seeming to be caught crying on camera during Margaret Thatcher's funeral service.
The Tory, who had just turned eight years old when Thatcher came to power in 1979, was seen with tears appearing to stream down both cheeks during the eulogy read by the Bishop of London, the Right Reverend Richard Chartres.
Osborne, who has been under fire for his mishandling of the UK economy, got a predictably rough ride on Twitter, where he quickly became a trending topic.
User @adjykritik quipped: "Osborne is crying because he's just realised he's more responsible for ruining the UK economy than anyone else alive."
Comedian @JonnieMarbLes, best known for being jailed over his custard pie attack on Rupert Murdoch during the Leveson Inquiry, joked: "I assume George Osborne's crying because he's just realised that he is George Osborne."
And @welsh_gas_doc Tweeted: "Somebody should search Osborne for the onion he was hiding on the way out."
But @ThatcheriteLee summed up the feelings of the substantial pro-Maggie camp when he said: "George Osborne crying is showing more dignity than those mocking him for it."
